POTTERY CLASSES

 

At Honiton Pottery we are able to offer classes to cater for all ages and abilities.  Whether you are 4 or 104 we can create the right sort of class for you.  One to one tuition is available if desired.  Family tuition can be booked for families wishing to do something different together.  Usually the classes are for a maximum of 8 people thus enabling everyone to get lots of individual tuition.

Introduction to Working with Clay

Maximum number:  8

Cost:  £75 – includes all materials, glazing and firing

This is a 6 week course (12 hours) aimed to give you knowledge of slab building, tile making, sprig moulds and decoration and throwing on the wheel.  Each participant will be able to take home several finished pieces that would have been glazed and fired.

This is an ideal first course for those not entirely sure working with clay is all about.  It is aimed to give you a taster of different techniques.

 

Throwing Classes

Maximum number:  4

Cost:  £85 – includes all materials, glazing and firing

This is a 6 week course ideal for beginners.  The course will cover Health and Safety, wedging and preparation of the clay, centering and coning and the first principles of throwing a pot.

You should be able to make a bowl, a jug and a mug by the end of the course.

 

Handbuilding Classes

Maximum number:  8

Cost:  £75 – includes all materials, glazing and firing

This is a 6 week course and will cover Health and Safety, wedging and preparation of clay, all handbuilding techniques includes pinch/thumb pots, slabbing and coiling.  At the end of the course you will have made something using each method.  Your pieces will be glazed and fired.

 

 

Saturday Morning Workshops for Children

Maximum number:  10

Cost:  £45 – includes all materials, glazing and firing

(10% discount for 2nd and other children in same family)

This is a 6 week (18 hours) structured course which will cover handbuilding techniques including pinch/thumb pots, slabbing and making coil pots.  Each child will also be able to ‘have a go’ on the potters wheel.  Each child will be able to glaze and have some of their pieces fired.

 

Saturday Morning Workshops for Families

Maximum number:  2 families

Cost:  £45 – includes all materials, glazing and firing

(10% discount if 4 or more members in the same family)

This is a one off Workshop designed for families to do something different together which in turn may result in one or more members enrolling on some of the other courses we have to offer.

The Workshop will last for 3 hours and will cover some handbuilding techniques and you will learn to throw a basic pot on the potters wheel.  Each family member will be able to have some of their work glazed and fired.

 

Children’s After School Club

Maximum number:  10

Cost:  £3.25 for each session attended and includes all materials

This is a drop in club and children can come and go as they please on a weekly basis.  The children will learn to make various items starting with pinch/thumb pots, coil pots and slab building.  Each session will move as fast as each individual child wishes.  The children will be able to glaze selected pieces and have them fired in the onsite kiln.

Individual Tuition

Cost:  £35 per hour and includes all materials, glazing and firing

You may wish for a taster lesson or you may wish to embark upon a course of lessons.  Either way your requirements will be accommodated after consultation with the tutor and a course can be devised.
